Our philosophy at Humble Beginnings is that any client can change,
given the right tools and the right environment of recovery.
- Josh Moy

Humble Beginnings Recovery was founded by two experienced professionals in substance use treatment and recovery housing who recognized critical gaps in the existing system. Too often, individuals are caught in a cycle of treatment, relapse, incarceration, and hospitalization without receiving the individualized support needed for lasting change.

Our program is designed to break that cycle. We treat each client as a whole person, providing structured, trauma-informed support that fosters emotional health, personal accountability, and long-term recovery. Rooted in the Baltimore City community, we maintain strong partnerships within local treatment and recovery networks, allowing us to deliver comprehensive, coordinated care grounded in compassion, expertise, and respect.

ASAM Level 3.1 care provides a structured residential treatment setting with clinically managed services at a low level of intensity.

Our Vision and Values

Our Mission
Our mission is to provide evidence-based, culturally competent substance use disorder treatment through residential services that support each client in creating a personalized recovery plan. We are committed to expanding outreach to employers and vocational programs, helping clients become productive, contributing members of their communities.

Our Philosophy
We believe that respecting each individual’s self-determination, honoring their unique experiences, and supporting their personal growth leads to better outcomes and stronger relationships, ultimately transforming lives.

Our Goals
We aim to improve the overall health of our clients—emotional, vocational, physical, and mental. Humble Beginnings Recovery employs an eclectic, evidence-based approach, integrating multiple therapeutic modalities to address the diverse social, mental, and emotional needs of those we serve.

Our Purpose
Our purpose is to help clients heal and move forward by fostering a supportive, family-like environment where growth is encouraged, and conflicts can be addressed with care and guidance.

Our Beliefs
We recognize addiction as a disease that affects every aspect of a person’s functioning. Effective recovery addresses physical, mental, emotional, and social health. True, lasting outcomes require a long-term continuum of care that not only treats the symptoms of substance use disorder but also addresses underlying trauma, family dynamics, unresolved emotions, and insecure attachments.

Just like the lotus,
we too have the ability to rise from the mud,
bloom out of the darkness,
and radiate into the world.
